environment is very nice: I have my own spacious office with big windows; co
-workers are friendly. Although they are all white Americans, so far, I
haven’t felt anything that they treat me differently. They put me on a
small project to get me familiar with the project execution process.
Meanwhile, they put me on two medium-sized projects so that I can get a
taste of how things feel like.

Right after I graduated from school, I saw an excellent article posted here,
instructing on how to get best out of your time being a student researcher,
but it was a little late for me.
I am new in industry as well and I have been feeling similarly. Really hope
that senior guys could point out a few important things, which could save
young people a lot time trying on different directions.
Anyway, one thing I feel is: if you aim high, you would shoot high. |

The only difference is I felt bored the first couple of weeks when they gave
me basic and elemental works to do, and kept asking for works. But when
projects did come the second month, I start feel overwhlemed because of the
same reason as others....
I guess it happend to everyone, just don't put too much pressure on yourself
when the projects already gave you enough. Give ourselves sometime to make
mistake and ask stupid questions which we'll avoid in |

工作两个星期了，做了三件事。一个小项目的preliminary engineering report，
conceptual design了整个处理过程；一个diagnositc evaluation，某个废水厂的消毒
过程有些问题，要查清楚原因，我给个初步的分析报告；还有三个要到期的NPDES
permits renewal。还处于新鲜阶段，所以还成，除了permit那些活儿觉得比较无聊。
新的问题是，consulting的工作，到底有什么挑战的地方呢？貌似根本不需要PHD嘛。
倒是发现有些产品公司，比如orenco，比如biolac，有些技术开放，可以申请专利，貌
似更好玩些。
所以，目前问题是，consulting工作的挑战在哪里？这个businesss里头，我们的方向
有哪些呢？

在学校里无论做什么都有个标准，考试得多少分了。写论文有什么格式了。
基本上达到要求，做为学生来讲你就是成功了。
工作中如果还是这种态度的话，可以会影响以后的发展。
因为如果你的目标如果是想当manager的话，你就要按照manager的标准来要求自己，可
是公司雇你是按照你目前的职位的标准来要求你的。如果你只是按照公司对你的要求来
做事情的话，那么做到最好也只能是你目前的这个职位所能达到的水平。
另外一点感想就是，速度与质量的问题。
在学校里就算题做错了，可能也可以得到一半的分数。但是在工作中，只有对和错的区
别，没有８０％正确这个概念。很多人一味的追求速度，想以此来表现自己的能力，但
是如果没有质量做为保证的话，做的再快，也是失败的。
就能想到这么多吧。 |

getting the master plan done for a county in Georgia. A few of my questions
for him were based on your post. I did get a better understanding of the
