a green lawn is pretty, enhances the value of the property, and is good for
family outdoor activities and small kids to play.
in the summer, kids play soccer or baseball on our lawn, and we invite
friends or neighbors over for parties on the lawn.
tough to do that in the forest.
yes, lawn has its own problems as well. I personally like meadows much
better but if you have a family, you got to have at least a small lawn. |
s****y 发帖数: 160 | 5 I don't think it is stupid. Environmental issues are all about how much you
should care. If Americans really are short of water, they will change. Now
the prob is not big, so the situation will sustain. In China there are not
enough trees. Planting trees then will be a priority. It is funny that my
parents came to the US and commented that why the US does not plant trees
that can bear fruits instead of such "useless" trees and lawns. The answer I
think is the same: America is rich enough to have |

personally believe that benefit is much less than maintenance cost for

I am not sure what you basis is for such a statement. the fact the lawn
industry is a multi-billion dollar thriving industry here seems to suggest
otherwise, for the public at large.

I would never go back to entirely meadow on my property, simply because I
have little kids and it isn't going to be great |

It is a typical case of what is called "public good" and "free ride" in
economy. The benefit of private lawn is enjoyed by the owner only. However,
the public suffer from the environment damage of lawn. The disparity between
the cost and benefit result in the thriving of lawn industry.

try to own a house first and then you will understand why the above
statement is so wrong in real life.
But going back to your original statement about the benefits of owning a
lawn is overwhelmed by the cost in maintaining it. exactly how did you
conclude that?
"There do not exist a magic grass that can solve the lawn problem. "
that doesn't mean there can NOT exist a mag |
