Thursday when Germany's most important business climate index suffered an
unexpectedly large fall in July.
The Ifo index for western Germany dropped to 89.9 from 91.3 in June, its
second successive monthly fall. Financial markets had anticipated only a
slight decline in the index.
It was the latest sign that business sentiment across the eurozone is
