forms you have to sign at the penal review meeting. at the beginning of next
year, NSF will send you an 1099 form, and you need to file income tax for
that portion. it is not employment income, so there is no problem. just don'
t forget it when you file 1040. |

For H1b, file expense report and NSF will reimburse the actual expense,
including lodging, taxi...
for PR and citizen, you can take flat rate reimbursement, $480 for each
meeting day and $280 for each travel day. The payment will show up in 1099-misc as taxable income

holders/citizens can take the money.

h1b visa. also while i was on h1b visa, i had some other incomes
from other places (for my service) filed with 1099-misc. i had
never had any problem with irs.
actually at least in one year irs did look carefully over my 1040
and found that i calculated the tax wrong, off by about $1, and
wrote to me to tell me the mistake but it forgave me since the
amount was so small. so, from that experience, i am quite certain
that my nsf pay |

It is illegal as far as I know. If NSF sent you money, you probably had done
their forms wrongly.

仁兄就不好再在学术领域混了，那是明明白白的lie。
NSF的panel管的还是挺严的，人家email和当面都确认你不是H1B才会给钱。当然人家
也不会让你出示绿卡或者EAD，人家相信professional的人不会撒谎而已，而且还是
只为了区区1000多刀。
