There are cases. I have seen it, from ~100 to ~10, after 3-yr AP.

2. top 1 post-doc would not guarantee you a tire-3 AP position.

你说的这个是特例
如果问什么工作好，北大图书馆管理员最好只能是个特例，呵呵

只是看到tozi的例子，有感而发提一下
回到楼主的问题， Move up当然有难度
但如果下决心去做，有不少人都做到了
只是没有那样大的跳跃

to a better location, not necessarily a better school. But it is already
hard.
