I do not want people know who I am.
Social science.
I got tenure earlier than tenure clock. Before I submitted my applications,
some senior faculty talked with me. I told them I planned to apply earlier
and I was told it would be risky. I replied that I would leave if my
application was turned down. The most senior faculty in the department was
against my application and I left his office in the middle of a conversation.
My publication is strong, teaching is a little above average, did assigned
service. I have a good relationship with my colleagues.
Voting at the department, college, university were unimous supporting. | a********u 发帖数: 1277 | 2 Congratulations!
It seems this senior faculty member does not have the voting power. | F**D 发帖数: 6472 | 3 cong

early promotion, that means they did not think you were qualified.
in this case you are lucky to have passed, but you have over-spent
your credit.
In my department, if you are a superstar, the chair will talk to you
about submitting the package early because they don't want you
to be on the market.

You must have some senior supporters or you are a superstar. Based on my own
experience, I adopt the following rule: if I am not ready to accept the
answer, then do not ask. When I asked a senior colleague about earlier
tenure, he told me it was risky and I couldn't persuade him. I decided to
wait to maintain the relationship. If I have forced the department, I would
have gotten tenure early, but I would have offended some people too.
So I think ZKBS is right. There are some risks involved. But I appreciate
your courage. A lot of people, including myself, are too intimidated to ask
for what we deserve. Hope you can share more details with us. Not about
yourself, but about you weigh the risks, your decision process. |
