请教一下。
最近有一个faculty的职位（非tenure），需要和系主任面谈。大概定了30分钟。大家
觉得主要和她谈些什么呢？
我粗粗做了个research，想问一下以下一个问题，不知道大家还有什么好的建议：
（1) what is your vision on ** research in the department?
(2) what will be your expectations on a newly joined member like to with
** background?

How often is evaluation done?
Will I have a mentor to work with?
Is there summer support/or other teaching releases given for research?
What are the criteria for tenure? How are research, teaching, and/or service
weighted?
From someone who does social-science research (i.e., someone coming up for
tenure primarily on journal articles as opposed to a scholarly book), what
does a tenuable record look like?
How important is obtaining extramural funding in the tenure decision?
Who has not gotten tenure recently in the department/college? What are the
stumbling blocks in their cases?
Starting a Research Program
What types of resources will I have?
-start up money?
-graduate/undergraduate research assistants?
-equipment
Financial Issues
How are salaries determined?
Does the department provide support for travel to conferences?
What types of health insurance benefits are available?
What types of retirement programs are available
Other Issues
What amount of committee time will be expected of me?
YOU NEED TO ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CLIMATE OF THE DEPARTMENT – E.G., WHAT
IS IT LIKE TO WORK HERE? DO FACULTY GENERALLY GET ALONG? IS IT A PLEASANT
PLACE TO WORK?
YOU NEED TO ASK WHAT CHALLENGES TO DEPARTMENT CURRENTLY IS FACING, AND WHAT
DIRECTIONS THEY ARE PLANNING TO GO IN THE FUTURE
FOR THE DEAN, YOU CAN ASK ABOUT HIS/HER PERCEPTION OF THE DEPT – WHAT’S
THE CLIMATE LIKE, WHAT ARE THEIR STRENGTHS, WHAT CHALLENGES ARE THEY FACING.
YOU ALSO CAN ASK THE QUESTIONS ABOUT ADVANTAGES/POTENTIAL PROBLEMS WITH A
JOINT APPOINTMENT, AND ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF SECURING GRANT MONEY.

My department head asked me: are you married? how many kids do you have?
What does your wife do?
Then he talk about the city, the university, and the position for a while.
After that he asked how do you plan to attract funding? how do you plan to
collaborate with other faculties on research?
Then I asked a couple questions about the position.
I hope this is typical for everybody. |
