The NFL has passed 2010 Playing Rule Proposal No. 8 -- Otherwise known as mo
dified overtime.
The new OT system will only apply to the playoffs for now. In essence, it ke
eps a team from winning a game by taking the opening kickoff in overtime, dr
iving a short field, and simply kicking a field goal. The team that wins the
coin toss is able to win the game with a touchdown on the first possession
of overtime. A field goal would allow the other team to get one possession t

A few weeks ago, Mark of Denver asked what would happen under the new rule
if a team opens overtime with an onside kick, recovers it and then kicks a
field goal on the ensuing possession. I deferred a final answer until we got
the exact wording of the rule. |

But I don't think we will ever see this being called in our life time --
that's even more audacious than choosing
to defend after winning the OT coin toss in the old format.

l*x 发帖数: 14021 | 7 I think I agree with starsee.
Replace the onsite kick with a regular kickoff. If the returner does not
catch the football, and the kicking team recover it. The kicking team should
be able to win the game with a field goal, even though the receiving team
have never had procession of the football. They got the chance, but they
failed. |
l*x 发帖数: 14021 | 8 What about a safety on the opening drive? Will it end the game? I am not
sure.
If not, the team who score a safety will receive the kickoff, and should
they be able to win the game by kicking a field goal. I think they should. |

l*****8 发帖数: 16949 | 18 刚才ESPN看到了,一共4条:
1. If the first team with ball scores TD, it wins.
2. If first team with ball makes FG, other team will get opportunity to tie
or win.
3. If both teams make FG, next team score wins
4. Any score by opposing defense or special teams ends game.
所以:
1。没有提到onside kick 的问题。
2。基本原则和我原来预想的"每个队至少一次进攻机会“很接近。但有两点不同:
14021 | 19 I think all those 4 rules only apply for the first series of each team. So
if no team scores on their first procession, the old OT rules apply, and
that means first team score wins, even with a FG.
A safety will end the game, as it is scored by the opposing defense.
It also seems like onside kick is no different than regular kickoff as far
as the OT rules are concerned.
But it still does not answer this scenario: if the kicking team recover the
football on the opening kickoff, whether onsite kic |

OT从35 yard开球就好了,好像正好是那5 yard让50%左右的平局倾斜了。
