The technique still needs manual interactions of videos. Anyone working in
the
augmented reality or 3D computer vision can design and implement the system
easily but this application is creative. They basically did three things:
- Playback camera calibration which determines six extrinsic camera
parameters, i.e., where the camera is located (x,y,z) and which direction
the
camera is looking at (alpha, beta, gama), and intrinsic camera parameters
(often five), including focal length, width aspect ratio, height aspect
ratio,
horizontal image center, and vertical horizontal center. In this way, given
a
3D coordinate in the world coordinate, you can determine its 2D image
coordinate in the playback camera. i.e, give the location, orientation, and
shape of a specific virtual object, we can see
how it looks in the viewpoint of the playback camera.
- Manually click the 2D position of the ball in the images obtained from one
or two calibrated cameras and calculate its 3D position. And then you can
know
all the parameters of the 3D yellow lines in the world coordinate, i.e., the
location and orientation of the 3D yellow line.
- Render the 3D yellow line into the playback camera. The only computings
involved here are just matrix multiplications. |

note that a player or referee near the yellow line will occlude the line.
This is a much more difficult (but solvable) problem than getting camera
parameters or doing geometric transformation. |

steelers 1" (steelers in offense ;-), the whole process can be completely
automated
