Offsides - When a defensive player is lined up on the offenseive side of the
ball, but doesn't cause an offensive player to move, and the offens snaps
the ball it's a five yard penalty with a free play. Free play meaning that
the QB can just chuck the ball up and see what happens and if it's turned
over, it doesn't matter because the offense would just take the 5 yard
penalty.
Neutral zone infraction - Is when a defensive player jumps offsides but
causes an offensive player, most likely a lineman, to jump which results in
play stoppage unlike with an offsides call.
Encroachment - Is if a defensive player jumps offsides and actually makes
contact with an offensive player, mostly lineman, which again results in
play stoppage.
