Data Volume
The MODIS Cloud Mask Product (MOD35_L2) will be produced at the MODAPS
facility at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. MODAPS will produce 100%
of the MOD35_L2 product. MOD_PR35 process executes 24 hours a day (on every
MODIS L1B granule).
Approximately 288 MOD35_L2 HDF files are produced per day. Each HDF file is
roughly 47.5 MB in size, so the total data volume is approximately 13.7 GB
per day.

you also need a "high" temperature so you can make up a curve
between cold and hot, and measured temperature supposedly in between.
vicarious target is "high" temperature object.
If you have onbard blackbody at such high temperature, that's ideal.
Amazingly many do not have it. Even having it, it could degraded in an
unpredictive way in the harsh space environment.

为什么要vicarious calibration?因为onboard的calibrator不准呗。过了这么些年,
什么器件都有可能degrade。而且MODIS的设计对偏振效应估计不足。

为什么这么多年calibration都是小打小闹的incremental发展,大家是不是私下
都想千万别很空出世一个独步天下one fit all的calibration方法,不然就没饭吃了。
看看那帮炼钢的,当年多火,结果是钢越炼越牛,系都没了,遑论专业。再看
calibration,
那真是一辈子的饭啊。
对可见光懂得不多,不过好歹你们有个太阳啊。红外就太诡秘了,不过
Wisconsin
group这两年搞得那套calibration很novel,敬仰。
