What I want to achieve is to bring my printer into the wireless network, so that all wirelessly connected laptop could use the printer, also to re-broadcast the wireless in the 2nd room. I found my signal reduces a lot just a room away from the main router (laptop in the room where the main router is has 300M speed, but just a wall away, I only got about 150M). I don't know if the 520GU (a G router with 54M max speed) rebroadcasting would increase the signal in this room or not. I'm confused by the concept of wireless client/wireless bridge and WDS.
Got Asus 520GU and N16. N16 flashed to tomatousb 1.28 (K26 beta) ext
version, while 520GU justtomatousb 1.28 (k24).
Plan to use N16 as primary router connected to cable modem, 520GU as
secondary connected to my Canon AIO printer.
Followed all sorts of setting suggestion floating online but could not get
it work. What I did:
1. Primary router:
Normal WAN setting, 192.168.1.1 ip, DHCP enabled
AP+WDS mode,
use WPA-AES encryption
choose band (5,6,11)
link to the wireless MAC of the secondary
2. 2ndary router:
Disabled WAN
set 192.168.1.2 ip, set gateway to be 192.168.1.1, static DNS (tried using
192.168.1.1 as well as the DNS given by ISP shown in my main router
configuration)
Disabled DHCP (also tried enabling it, but giving ip in different sections
from the main router, for example, main router is giving 192.168.1.100-110,
2ndary is giving 192.169.1.150-160)
AP+WDS mode.
use WPA-AES encryption with exact same SSID and password as the main router.
Use the same band as main router, 5,6 and 11 respectively
link to the wireless MAC of the main router.
USB support enabled, and I could see my printer in the list.
When I configured the 2ndary router, I just plugged in an Ethernet cable,
disconnect from the main router's connection, and I could see the main
router in the device list, with this rrsi (showing -48db),and also
performance bars.
However once I unplugged the cable and get on the main router connection
again, I can no longer log into the 2ndary router by 192.168.1.2, in the
main router's GUI (192.168.1.1) I can see the 2ndary router in the device
list with rrsi (showing some db number), but there was no performance bars,
no ip showing as well. On the other hand, all other wireless devices could
be seen in main router's device list (all of my wirelessly connected laptops
), with both rrsi number and the performance bars as well as their ip
addresses.
I could not add printer by 192.168.1.2 ip address as well.
Can you guys help me out with this?

发帖数: 1308 | 2 After reading online, now I'm more leaning towards using just wireless
bridge on the router 2. Essentially the laptop in room 2 (where printer is)
still gets faster speed (144M) than the speed of a G router can re-transmit
(54M). So I guess the ideal situation would always be using the main router'
s connection, instead of using the G router's repeated signal.
Also,most of the online WDS tutorial were written in pre-N period, so they
claim that to get WPA encryption work, you need to set the wireless in G
only mode. Just do not know how it changes with an N+G configuration such as
in my case; if to get WDS work meaning sacrificing the N speed, then I'd
rather avoid it.
Any guru can answer this pls? | l***h

wireless client/wireless Ethernet bridge: 这两个模式用于副路由器，使副路由器
从主路由器获取无线信号，由副路由器通过有线LAN的方式给连接的设备，也就是说
WiFi设备只能从主路由器而不能从副路由器获取信号。前者是主/副两个路由器下的各
自子网不同，管理上麻烦一些。后者副路由器的子网跟主路由器完全相同。
WDS：跟前面两种方式不同之处在于，副路由器收到住路由器的无线信号后，还可以无
线发送出去，扩大无线信号的范围。等同于DD-WRT下的repeater bridge。前提条件是
主副路由器都要支持WDS，简单说就是要两台番茄

发帖数: 1308 | 4 WDS would halve the bandwidth at the 2ndary router, but I still get full N
speed from primary router, right? In my case, the 2ndary is a G router, and
I can get about 150mbit speed from the primary, I'm thinking there's no need
for WDS in my case (apartment use not a big house). I just need a
transparent bridge to get the printer onto the main wireless network, but it
won't make much sense to do repeater type of job then.
