("to meet the fast-growing global consumer demand for smartphones and tablet
PCs, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) plans to hire 4,000 to 5
,000 people, up to 3,000 of those by the end of June")
My comment: There is teh other side of the coin: Taiwanese PC makers Acer
and Asus, which had become teh first and second largest producers of web
books, are watching helplessly as sales of tablets and smartphones soar.
Acer had been in smartphone making business but was unsuccessful and Asus
had not been. It seems that they may have a hard time adapting. At last,
Asus last week introduced a tablet in Taiwan (possibly to test the water).
And Verizon, followed by AT & T a week ago, announced Acer Iconia Tab A501
Android tablet coming in 2Q11. |
