I don't think you guys are talking about the same thing. overall, ssd is
more reliable than mechanical drives, have a longer life span. m.2 is just a
faster interface.

then google and read your self.
I have a desktop sitting in my basement for 3-4 years unplugged, it has an
Intel 128G SSD with a Ubuntu Linux. I turned it back on last year,
everything worked out nicely. the computer still boots and runs without a
single problem.
