Shure Sm58 vs Sennheiser E835
So if anyone is looking for a good mic for live performances or studio
sessions, and of course budget friendly, the Sennheiser E835 is the best mic
out there. Shure’s Sm58 is industry standard, you will see that almost
every venue has these mics. They are convenient for performers who like to
get crazy on stage, jumping around nd being wreckless. They are extremely
durable, u can throw em, drop em, use em to hammer in nails, its almost like
a tank. They also have a built in pop filter( windscreen) for performers
who blow out a lot of air when singing, P’s B’s S’s. That is the plus
side to these mics. I personally dislike the Sm58’s because of their lack
of EQ. Without these mics being EQ’d theyre like a waste, you basically
have to pump up the Highs and Mids on the EQ or u will not get good sound
from these mics. And of course by doing so the mic will pick up a lot of
unwanted room noise. And if u are a singer who has to have your mouth
slobbering on the mic to feel like your singing(me), this is not the mic for
you, singing up close on the mic if not EQ’d correctly can be disasterous,
especially in a live setting. If your looking for a dynamic mic for your
home recording, defintely do not get an Sm58, unless you wanna mic your amps
, they are pretty awesome for that. But a mic that does all these things
usually lack in important areas. Which leaves me at my next point.
Sennheiser E835 mics are gods gift to singers. They have a wide range
frequency, u can just plug it in and get great clearity from them without
EQing them. You can sing close up, or be back a good distance from the mic
and u will still get great sound. This is the perfect choice when desiding
on SM58s or 835s. They have excellent feedback rejection, for those singers
that like to walk around, get close to speakers, floor monitors, or amps,
your feedback will be almost non-exsistant. This is a no brainer for live
performances, i will never leave home without it. But i will definietly be
leaving home my SM58. Recording with the 835 is much better than the SM58,
except that u may need a pop filter infront of the 835 because there is no
windscreen built in. But dont be worried, it doesnt pick up many P’s B’s
or S’s if u stand a good distance back. If you were to test both mics, put
both mics side by side, with no EQ, u will barely hear yourself on the SM58,
they are too muddy, 835s clarity is superb.
Well bottom line, they are both good mics, obviously SM58s are industry
standard for a reason, their durability, and their ability to limit pop
noises. Bono still uses SM58s, and they are only $100 dollars. But they
suite his voice perfectly. John Mayer also uses SM58s. Shania Twain, Alicia
Keys, Dave Matthews band, Pink, Chris Carrabba, The Scipt, Jason Mraz, are a
few Artist that use Sennheiser mics. Tho Dave Matthews sometimes uses AKG
brand mics. It all depends on your own personal perference i guess. Dont be
afraid to try out different mics and brands. I personally live by Sennheiser
, maybe cause im part German, maybe its because their mics are umm, awesome!.
