New Jersey Devils forward John Madden and Tampa Bay Lightning forward Martin
St. Louis were the heroes of their first-round series. That's quite an
accomplishment for a pair of players who weren't the most heralded young
players to join the NHL. But that early lack of recognition had a lot to do
with the kind of players they've become: Dedicated, ferocious defenders with
good scoring ability. Both were college stars, finalists for the 1997 Hobey
