发帖数: 543 | 4 don't expect too much. you should try more. If you don't know the fellow,
you need to dig out somebody you know mutually. I contacted a fellow with
my company email address, and mentioned I reported directly to a VP who was
close to the fellow. Don't use free email accounts when you are looking for
supporting letters. Connection is the key.

发帖数: 543 | 5 I got similar reponses from some professors. That's not too bad. You know,
most professors don't even reply at all. The process is very frustrating,
but we all have to get over it. Knowing this, it's better to do it earlier,
and try harder.

mentioned my advisor, and even said we've met at conferences. His email said
he'd only write recommendations for someone he actively collaborates with :(

发帖数: 543 | 7 this happens most of the time. that's why it took me too long to even
initiate the process. I think most people hate to be declined, but there is
no choice. Anyway, it doesn't hurt. Try harder, you will get them. Many
people are also saying you don't have to stick to NIU professors. Spend
some time to find some professors overseas. Maybe their letters are more
helpful.
