Well, one world renowned guy said, " of course I will (and should) write
by myself." And he told me he had experience writing such letters.
All others wanted a draft, except my advisor, who (perhaps reluctantly)
decided to write by himself to avoid duplication.

reference letters:
With your permission, I can provide you a sample letter from my attorney's
office and my own draft of the letter.
You will know from the response whether you need to draft the letter by
yourself. Most of the time, they will ask for a draft. In my case, there
were also one (independent) refused me and one (non-independent) decided to
write by himself |
