I reviewed about 20 journal papers and about 20 conference papers, served as
a committee member and a session chair.
I had about 8 journal papers, 2 book chapters, and some conference papers,
overall 21.
Some points:
1. My citation is less than 30. So I only mentioned the countries and
institutes.
2. We got a funding recently which is based on my Ph.D. dissertation, so I
emphasized on it, although my boss said I emphasized too many times-:)
3. I am on OPT, so it seems this is not a problem.
4.It is better to have some American friends to read your letters for you. I
used one template from here. It is interesting that there are something
that I think it is good, but my friends do not think that way. My friends
must spend more than 10 hours on my 17-page letter.
5.Be persistent. To get recommendation letters is a challenging period. Some
people I am so confident to get letters earlier did not do it (I understand
their concerns.) I have one letter from government lab, one from a company,
3 US professors, 1 professor from Korea. I also had two letters from two
editors-in-chief. It is interesting that when I asked for them the first
time, one of them did not reply but sent a letter one week later. Another
one replied after 1 week, and then sent back in another week. I did not
expect to have these two letters earlier.
Now I think I might be able to answer some questions in this board, which I
have no confidence to do before-:)

1. I had some graduate student awards, which is in some sense competitive. I
included these in my contribution part, showing that one of the awards only
award one graduate student in my field each year, and for the other award,
I got a letter from the president of my university (which has >40,000
students). I am not sure whether they helped.
2. My case is not common here since I do not have much citation, so only one
lawyer I asked said he could try-:)
3. For those who asked me for my PL, sorry I could not share it with you. It
is very personal. You will know this when you get your letter ready-:)
