A key thing USCIS officer will examine is whether the petitioner has made
original scientific, scholarly contributions of major significance in his
field. Therefore, letters that specifically articulate how the alien’s
work has impacted others in the field nationally or internationally, and how
the field has significantly changed as a result of his work. Generally,
letter writers will be greatly appreciated by:
• Giving a clear picture of the impact of the subject's work.
Contextualize the candidate’s research in a meaningful way and give
immigration officer who know little about the area of expertise a sense of
how that work can, and will, contribute to a given field.
• Making the letter as concrete as possible, including precise
descriptions of the applicant's work.
• Commenting whether the petitioner’s works and achievements have
been recognized in the field of expertise.
• Commenting whether the petitioner has sustained national or
international acclaims.
• Explaining Dr. Smith’s areas of specialization and the potential
impact of his expertise on programs, policies and practices of national or
international importance.
• Commenting the quality and quantity of Dr. Smith’s published and
submitted work.
• Explaining the nature of past personal interactions, if any, you
have had with the petitioner. If no, explain how you became aware of the
petitioner’s reputation.
• Overall assessment of the candidate in relation to his field.
• Commenting the petitioner’s services to the field, for example,
on his participation in judging the work of others in the same or an allied
field of the specification and whether such participation indicates the
petitioner enjoys sustained national or international acclaim.
• Commenting whether the petitioner’s work was recognized beyond
his employers and whether his work has values beyond his immediate employers.
Some other points:
• Letters containing mere assertions regarding the beneficiary’s
talent and skill in performing certain experiments are less persuasive than
letters that specifically identify his original contributions and provide
specific examples of how those contributions have influenced the field.
• A petitioner cannot file a petition based on the expectation of
future eligibility. Instead, the application package should present specific
examples of how the petitioner’s work has already had a significant impact
in the field. |
