want to continue to be postdog, go ahead, maybe with GC you can find better
postdog position or get some federal fellowship;
want to go industry, GC will definitely help. not limited by h1b or other
visa sponsorship any more, it helps quite a bit;
want to go after your real dream, such as opening a restaurant, you are
pretty much free to do so now;
want to change your major, having GC may lower your tuition (at least in my
university, without GC you must pay out-of-state tuition, which is 3 times
higher than in-state one).
anyway, if you do want to stay longer in us, GC will make your life easier.
