I currently have advanced parole card and plan to travel China -> Canada ->
US. Do I need canada visa in order to enter canada? has anyone done this
before?

S. visa, and you don't have a U.S. visa.
However, in practice, if you connect in Vancouver or Toronto terminal 3, you
will not go through Canadian border checks, you will go directly to U.S.
border checks. So it may not matter.
But the airline could deny you boarding for the above reason (you do not
have permission to transit Canada). | c**2
