Title: Design of Low Profile Petunia Shaped Mm-wave Antenna using Particle
Swarm Optimization
Abstract: The paper proposes an analysis of asymmetric dual antipodal
petunia-shaped antenna that operates in the entire mm-wave frequency range (
30-300 GHz). Prior work on millimeter-wave antenna design focuses mainly on
the antenna design at 28 GHz band, 32 GHz band, 60 GHz band, and 78 GHz. On
the other hand, the proposed antenna provides an operating frequency of 30-
300 GHz, covering the complete millimeter-wave frequency range. The analysis
mainly focuses on the asymmetric tapering of the structure, with PSO
optimizing technology that emphasizes the current density and field
distribution of conducting and the dielectric region of the system through
sinusoidal current distribution. The final structure of a Petunia-shaped
antenna is designed from a single ball-shaped radiator as a base structure.
The stepwise development of the final structure is presented in the design
section of the paper. Due to the restricted measurement facility the
measurement and experiment validation from1 GHz to 45 GHz is shown. The
antenna gain is 6.9 dBi with a radiation efficiency of 95% in the entire mm-
wave band. The proposed antenna's design and performance analysis are for
energy harvesting.
