e.g. in NYC, there seems to be a lot of DSL providers,
but all of them are using Verison's infrastructure.
Once the DSL system in Version goes down,
all of them are down too.
//grin.
I'm not quite clear what's ADSL and what's DSL,
but it seems to me they use PPPoE which is a
cheap implementation protocol and very unstable.
And with the same price , you get much smaller bandwidth with DSL
than with Cable.
e.g. My DSL is 384kbps/90kbps(d/u), 40.00$/month
Cable(Time warner) is 1.44kbps/??(d/ | n*****n 发帖数: 97 | 2 earthlink was providing adsl all over the country.
$40/mon for a 1.5M/384k is pretty good. and it's
actually very stable. the typical down-speed for
me is like 1.2~1.3Mbps, which means at very fast
website, it can be 160KB~170KB/s sustained.

| r****s 发帖数: 201 | 3 Here in my area, the cable provider is media-one.
I asked them about the data rate, maximum 1.5Mbps DS
and 300Kbps US. I want to have the ADSL service
because my work is related with ADSL. But I asked
a people having DSL service in the same area and he said
it is about $40/month with 128Kbps DS/US guaranteed. This seems
not good, because for most ADSL modems it should
be able to handle around 8Mbps DS and 1Mbps maximum. So I
wonder whether the bottleneck is in the central office side.
Personally
