Actually I made a very stupid mistake. It is really shameful for a EECS
student, but I want to make it clear here and hopefully it will be helpful
to other people who are going to do the same thing:
I set up PPPoE in the DSL router. After the router is set up, I thought
I should use the verizon dial up function to activate the connection. Actually
it is unnecessary to do so. After setting username/password correctly for the
