some kind of p2p file sharing program.
i'm trying to trace the history of p2p. Was Napster the first
big p2p community? Was p2p technology originally designed by
some individual tech freaks or government sponsored scientists?
Just read two interesting articles:
the first is about US government sponsoring research on better
p2p network technology. no big money but still interesting.

Doom is peer-to-peer. There are even people applying the label to e-mail and
telephones. Meanwhile, Napster, which jump-started the conversation, is not
peer-to-peer in the strictest sense, because it uses a centralized server to
store pointers and resolve addresses."
