only heard of coverting from pdf to com, not the other way around. So now
it is ok to do com to pfd?

发帖数: 460 | 4 Preferred, like cancer, is a lot of stuff with a single name. The preferred
stocks can have very fancy term. It's just a stock + a contract. Basically,
there is freedom to switch between common and preferred. For mutual funds,
they can get a more secured situation than common shares. And you can think
preferred as a combination of common and debt.
For banks, this might be slightly different for them since some preferred
stocks can be regard as Tier 1 capital. Tier 1 capital is a number the

发帖数: 460 | 6 I think you are right, in most cases, common shares cannot be converted to
preferred. But, I don't think the barrier is a big issue. MFs can work with
the company and let the company swallow the common shares and issue some
preferred to MFs. If I am correct, WB did it with Geico long time ago.
