are bad ones everyday. But on a S&P 500 down day, bloomberg,
yahoo, CNBC etc just put the bad news as headline; and on a
green day, they just pick the good news as headline. So the
effect looks like there is good/bad news, *therefore* the DOW
is up/down.

For example, they can put a title that says "Unemployment is 26 years
high" or put they could put a title that says "Unemployment persists
despite rising economy". The glass is never completely full or empty.
So there are plenty rooms for how to spin it.
And I also think they may not only be trying to explain the market,
they may also be trying to manipulate the market, by playing with
the bad news v.s. the good news. Apparently

What I've observed is that the headlines always pick the good news for a
rising day, and bad news for a falling day, and change the title after the
market turns direction, just simple like that. If they were to manipulate,
you should see mismatch from time to time since manipulations cannot be
always successful.

My reaction is that every time they change their mkt directional view from
the news after the mkt has already moved.

market move.

Market climbs despite of bad news, the investors are confident
the worst is over. blah blah.
