then pp is better, compared to target funds (2020, 2045, etc), which are xx%
sp500 funds (for indexers ;), and yy% bonds funds?

| h*******y 发帖数: 864 | 4 It is better in terms of volatility but not necessarily in terms of return (
if you believe in US' economy future). PP gave you the extra protection from
high inflation or dollar crash scenario. That's the beauty of asset
allocation.
Although, Harry Browne did recommend storing gold in the foreign bank safety
deposit box in case there is a turmoil in US. I don't think that's easy to
accomplish.

| h*******y 发帖数: 864 | 6 I don't think target date funds have a history. And you can get anything
from the data, depending on how you torture it. But, Gold has performed
surprisingly well in the last 30+ years since the collapse of Bretton Woods
system that elimiated the gold as the monetary standard. Its return from
1972 to now is about 12% annually, that is as good as the stocks. For an
asset that does not create value by itself, this is very surprising. (If you
don't get surprised by it, you lack a good understanding

Anyway, the data is here, one can choose to torture it in whatever way:

I did make one calculation error. The annual appreciation is about 10% from
1972 (when gold becomes freely traded) instead of 12%.

| f****t 发帖数: 1063 | 9 so is there similar lazy protfolios for non-retirement money?
【在 h*******y 的大作中提到】 : It only works in retirement accounts, otherwise tax will kill the return.
| h*******y 发帖数: 864 | 10 Maybe just index funds, municipal bonds and physical gold in the safety box.
And don't rebalance your portfolio, just buy more of the losing asset each
year with your new savings.
