本卖的当时就要交税而不管你赚没赚钱。

1. Does the "step up" of cost basis apply to collectables such as gold ?
2. How is GLD taxed? same as collectables?

I don't know how it is applied but I've posted articles on staying away
from GLD for your own good.

as NL pointed out, paper gold has its own risk and be aware of it before
buying.
i personally only own paper gold, since I don't have a place to hold
physical coins. but when I am settled down I will switch to physical gold
eventually. |

be a good way to shun the tax burden and also, if you believe your tax ratio
will be lower than 25% when you retire, you can buy GLD in 401K, 403b or
IRA too. |
