term portfolio for retirement. Very likely what will happen is that some of
the components will underperform badly and some will out perform for a
period of time. Don't dump the loser and chase the winner. Simply rebalance
the portfolio to its original allocation. I believe vanguard has the option
to do this automatically for you. Don't time the market. and that's a really
difficult thing to do for some people. |
S**C 发帖数: 2964 | 6 I will use this two to cover US equity and avoid small cap until small cap
valuation matrix become similar to large cap. That means, I will avoid total
stock market as well.
While I am OK with cap-weighted stock index, bond index never make sense to
me.

h****g 发帖数: 259 | 10 Mega cap is already a large part of total market.
There is evidence of small and value premium, which may or may not persist
in the future. So it makes sense to tilt towards small and/or value.
Personally I like total market better for its simplicity. I added small cap
tile because "small" is easy to define and capture.

expensive small cap is right now.

w***n 发帖数: 1519 | 12 IMO, it is much harder to define and capture small cap as compared to big
cap. From one big cap index to another, I don't expect to see a big
difference. Can't say the same about small cap indexes.
I do like small cap though; I just don't prefer small cap indexes. I'd
rather cherry pick some small cap stocks that I understand the potential and
risk and just go for them. Betting on a basket full of small names doesn't
make sense to me. Just my 2 cents.

S**C 发帖数: 2964 | 13 There is a big question mark on small premium, even if it exist, it is
rather weak and inconsistent comparing with value and quality. A strong
argument can be made the premium is due to small stocks' illiquidity, as
well as simply bad data (e.g., delisting/survivorship bias). If former, then
your best bet is active-management, if later, well.....
