It's really really coooool!
automatic class constructions.
automatic interface implementations.
automatic method hints.
syntax & reference checking while you typing.
structure map, resource map, package map...
and many more you will find out.
I think it's much cooler than codeworrior or Visual J++

My stuff is algorithm intensive though, not much GUI needed.

they don't have GUI wizard,since it doesn't make any sense to build GUI
like that in Java, you have to use LayoutManager for real products.
For Intellij, you can get a free license for 1 month per email address.
For Eclipse, it's totally free.

plan for IDEA 4.0.
IDEA is designed for hard code, so maybe you can try it.
I suggest it to many friends, they all love it.
