The rate of unemployment in the United States fell unexpectedly in November,
providing immediate cheer for traders in New York and around the world.
Just 11,000 jobs were axed during the month, far less than the 130,000
predicted and a drastic fall on the revised figures for the previous month.
Within an hour of the announcement the benchmark FTSE 100 had reversed an
earlier modest loss to stand 60 points higher.
