b********a 发帖数: 205 | 1 Need some advice here. Thanks in advanced for reading my post!
I am getting married soon, and hope to stay with my husband in Columbus OH.
He still has 2 or 3 years to go for his Ph.D. The plan is, after he
graduates, we will move to a place where we can both get good jobs.
I searched and searched, and it seems there is essentially no Computer
Science jobs around the area.
Should I focus on big companies and just get prepared to fly more frequently
? Should I be happy with some mediocre irrelevant job that does not push me
further on my capacity?
Our research directions are almost the same, and I am expecting my Ph.D.in
distributed computing & mobile wireless networking next May.
What is the best for us in the long term? My finance says I need not
worry or plan too much, and it is better to just let things roll out
themselves. Well, I guess I still want to hear second opinion from
brilliant people here. | v***n 发帖数: 5085 | 2 All right, I mean you did find the truth yourself. There is little IT in
Columbus, OH (BTW, I am sitting in an apartment at Upper Arlington now).
However, practicing your skills would be important unless you would like
to be the house wife after this two or three years. So my take from your
post is that you are really trying to convince yourself staying home in
the near future. But the preference of mine would be to find some related
job even in nearby cities to keep yourself sharp in the long run.
Given you are graduating with a PhD degree, why not visit faculty
board? Again, female Computer Scientist has significantly much higher
successful rate in hunting faculty position. | y***n 发帖数: 1594 | 3 没有真正意义上的IT(MS, Facebook, Google), 只有做Application的。可能对你的背
景不符合。 |
