Description
Purpose of Position:
The purpose of this position is to apply basic and advanced knowledge of
embedded systems engineering principles, with little supervision and
guidance, to the design, redesign, test, modeling and use of various
products, subassemblies and well-precedented systems.
Essential Functions:
Design and analyze electrical hardware circuits to reliably achieve
functional requirements and quantitative specifications.
Design electrical tests to verify performance of electrical hardware
circuits and demonstrate insensitivity of the design to parameters including
component and manufacturing variation, temperature, humidity, aging,
corrosion, esd, emc and vibration and shock.
Completes requirements for Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews
Demonstrates a comprehensive, intensive, practical knowledge of a technical
field and skill in applying this knowledge to the development of new methods
, approaches, or procedures.
Participates and takes leadership role in technical discussions with GPD
team.
Actively tracks developments in the electrical engineering community and
incorporates them where appropriate.
Designs, modifies, develops, writes and implements firmware programming
applications.
Supports and/or installs firmware applications/operating systems.
Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test
witnessing and certification of software.
Provides technical leadership for global development efforts.
Actively tracks developments in the software community and incorporates them
where appropriate
The employee and supervisor, in consultation, develop the deadlines,
projects, and work to be done. The employee generally determines the
approach to be taken and the methodology to be used. The employee keeps the
supervisor informed of progress, potentially controversial matters, or far-
reaching implications. Completed work is generally reviewed only from an
overall standpoint in terms of feasibility, compatibility with other work,
or effectiveness in meeting requirements or expected results.
Qualifications
Education, Background and Skill Requirements, BS with a minimum of 10 years
of directly relevant experience or an MS with 5 years of directly relevant
experience.
Has knowledge of commonly-used circuits, analysis and measurement tools. Has
knowledge of ISO quality systems (specifically Design Controls/Product
Realization) and related requirements. .
Demonstrated skill in the areas required to perform this job: Circuit
design, modeling, performance analysis and tradeoff analysis. Circuit layout
, to achieve performance, cost and compliance goals. Design and
implementation of circuit testing in all phases of product development life
cycle. Software Modeling and Design. Software Programming. Software Testing
. Software Troubleshooting. Software Documentation and Maintenance.
Technical Applications Knowledge. VOC and Product Definition. Industry
Contacts and Participation in Industry. Communication and Presentation
Skills. Technical Leadership for Projects
Specialization in one or more of the following areas: RTOS, Embedded file
systems, Firmware Testing, GUI Design and Implementation, Networking
Protocols, Field bus protocols, Internet Standards and Protocols,
Localization and Internationalization, Sensor technology. Low level analog
signal processing and A to D conversion, Low level analog measurements in
the presence of noise, PCB layout for AC signal integrity, DC signal
integrity and EMC. All external hiring is contingent upon the successful
