Responsibilities
• Provide technical leadership in the areas of polymers, biomaterials,
biocompatibility and materials characterization. Lead high level research &
strategy for global and local projects.
• Drive basic and applied research in the fields of polymer science
and biomaterials with applications directed towards biomedical products.
• Serve as the local Subject Matter Expert to independently determine
and develop approach to technical solutions as well as to support different
stage of the product development cycle.
• Collaborate with business units and/or Corporate Technology to
determine root cause and corrective actions for technical challenges in the
area of materials.
• Provide an understanding of processing, mechanical design, and
failure modes in biomedical materials.
• Collaborate with external scientists/engineers in the design and
testing of materials in biomedical devices.
• Establish and qualify novel physical, chemical and biological
methods for medical material and/or device characterization;
biocompatibility evaluation of medical devices.
• Lead effort of publication and presentation of key scientific
findings at credential journals and major conferences; generate intellectual
properties in the subject matter area
• Communicate work with project teams, peers and supervisor.
• Travel across China to establish partnerships, visit key
collaborators and attend relevant conferences.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, BME
or related areas.
• Extensive experience with a variety of material characterization and
processing techniques; emphasis on polymers and biomaterials.
• Demonstrated expertise in instrument operation and data analysis
using a variety of advanced analytical instrument.
• Speak and write Mandarin and English fluently.
• Excellent customer service skills, interpersonal, written and verbal
communication skills.
• Able to travel up to 25% of the time, domestically and
internationally.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• PhD in Materials Science
• 3+ years of experience in biomedical research and/or development of
medical products
• Experience with biological evaluation of biomaterials and medical
devices.
• Good understanding of polymer chemistry, polymer synthesis and in
vivo degradation.
• Familiarity with surface analysis and analytical chemistry
techniques and their use in problem solving.
• Experience with materials selection for medical device application.
• Proven independent technical problem solving skills.
• Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Have potential and demonstrated skills in broad, interdisciplinary
areas (metals, biologicals, interfaces, engineering design).
