Students approved for the 17-month extension may not accrue more than 120
days of unemployment during the total 29-month period of OPT. Employment
must be related to the field of study in order to qualify. Employment can be
paid or unpaid.
NOTE: Self-employment and volunteer positions will not qualify as valid
employment for OPT purposes during the 17-month extension.
volunteer是不算，但是unpaid employment可以。这两个有什么区别么？

我们学校ISS的人以前都很有帮助的，这次换个人连STEM多加30天都不知道！！
我之前OPT用掉了两个多月unemployment。眼下Funding说没就没，做生物真是伤不起。
唉我是真想改行了。。 |

persuasive. Besides, if you're not paid, how do you justify it is an "
employment", not a "volunteer"?

status change.

发帖数: 8496 | 24 if you are unlucky and got RFE, it can be a problem. I remember 3 people in
the past 3 years wrote on mitbbs asking how to response to I-485 RFE for
proof of continuous employment during OPT extention, and two of them were
actually unemployed most of the time. They never came back to update us how
it went.
