If you guys really want to keep me, you can let me keep my equity, turn me
into contract with hourly rate $150+, I think this rate is fair, when we
purchased USB over IP, Justin spent two weeks didn’t get build env work, I
spent less than two hours and got it done in the best way; Couple weeks ago,
we assigned Luis the macOS PowerPoint ticket, he struggled about two weeks
and gave up, to me, I shall be able to finish it in one to two days, if you
guys keep my insurance, that’s great, if not, that’s ok, just throw
me tough tickets or other people don’t want to work on, and you guys
can let me go whenever you guys think I’m no longer needed, no string tied.
How does that sound? if it is doable, I’ll notify Apple to cancel
their on-site, also cancel the interviews from Google, Amazon and Facebook. |

Just a quick follow up:
We can’t offer you a raise right now, you are currently the highest paid
engineer at our company – which makes you one of the highest paid people in
the company.
Breaking down your pay this year:
165k – base salary
15k – standard bonus
15k – hyper bonus
= 195k guaranteed as long as you are here through the end of the year or an
exit.
In the event of an exit:
90k – estimated from your 30k equity units
That means if we exit this year, total comp would be about 285k and could be
more if our sales pick up as the pandemic eases.
The other option I can make is this:
$125/hr. for 60 days.
You would lose your equity & your bonus but this would be very good pay for
a couple of months while you decide what to do next. We would also ask that
you help us with some documentation and hiring a backfill for yourself.
Just to reiterate, I want you to stay. You’re a very good engineer and we
really value what you offer which is why you’re the highest paid engineer
on staff.
