研究方向：高分子化学 – 抗菌剂高分子的设计与合成
Mary Chan教授及其实验室成员于近期获得一笔可观的科研经费用于新一代无毒抗菌剂
的高分子设计、合成及研究的重大项目。新一类的抗菌剂高分子有着迫切的需求，用以
取代现有的有毒型消毒剂或耐药性类抗生素。我们以往的研究已表明多糖是一种极佳的
有望成为选择性抗菌剂的材料，希望找到有能力的博士毕业生加入在高分子化学领域进
行更深入的研究。
此科研项目将与其他几所世界顶尖大学及实验室共同合作完成，包括麻省理工学院、帝
国理工大学、华盛顿大学和伊利诺伊大学厄巴纳-香槟分校。
Mary Chan 教授
Dr. Chan于1986年毕业于新加坡国立大学化学系，1993年在麻省理工学院高分子专业获
得博士学位，现为新加坡南洋理工大学化学与生物医药工程学院的正教授。她主要致力
于研究高分子在纳米科学与生物科技方面的应用，已有多于180篇文章发表于顶级期刊
包括Nature Materials, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials,
JACS, Small, Biomaterials 等等。她的实验室于近期开发了一类新型的高效广谱抗菌
剂涂层，并且无毒具有生物相容性。此相关研究已发表于Nature Materials (2011) 和
Advanced Materials (2012)，所获专利已被公司认可及使用，而她本人也于近期被选
为美国医学生物工程研究所的特别会员。

Polymer chemistry
Background
Prof Mary Chan and her team have recently won a highly competitive large
grant on the design, synthesis and studies of the next-generation non-toxic
antimicrobial polymers. New alternative antimicrobial polymers are urgently
needed to replace the current toxic disinfectants or resistance-prone
antibiotics. We have shown that polysaccharides are excellent candidates as
selective antimicrobial agents.
We are looking for talented graduates who wish to pursue further in depth
studies in the field of polymer chemistry.
This research will be in collaboration with other top international
scientists from MIT, Imperial College and University of Washington (Seattle)
and University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
Professor Mary Chan
Dr Chan is presently a professor at the School of Chemical and Biomedical
Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University Singapore (NTU Singapore
). Dr Chan-Park’s main research interests are in polymers in nanoscience
and biotechnology. She has published extensively, with more than 180 papers
in top-tier journals such as Nature Materials, Advanced Materials, Advanced
Functional Materials, JACS, Small, Biomaterials, etc. Her group has recently
developed a novel class of highly effective broad spectrum antimicrobial
coatings which are non-toxic and biocompatible. The findings have recently
been published in Nature Materials (2011) and Advanced Materials (2012) and
her patents have been used/licensed to companies.She has recently been
elected to being a Fellow of the America Institute for Medical and
Biological Engineering. She obtained her BEng (Chem) and PhD (polymers)
from the National University of Singapore and MIT in 1986 and 1993
respectively.
Research Topics: Design and Synthesis of antimicrobial polymers.
Qualifications of Candidates:
A PhD from a good university in the field of polymer chemistry. Good track
record in research publications.
