I think it comes preskinned. It's on sale at my supermarket. Dunno why they
would use such a cute picture of a raccoon.

To expand on this, because I'm a bored parasitologist and a lot of people
seem to be asking for clarification - most American raccoons (as many as 70%
of adults and 90% of juveniles in some areas) carry a parasitic roundworm
in their guts called Baylisascaris procyonis. This is not their only
parasite, but it is the among the most serious for humans. The raccoons poop
out the eggs of the roundworms that live in their guts, and they infect
most any vertebrate unlucky enough to consume them. These eggs can persist
in the environment for a long time (like weeks to months to years) and are
pretty resistant to things like heat or cleaning agents that would kill
lesser eggs. If the eggs get into a raccoon, they don't do much harm, mature
in the gut, and the cycle starts over. If you eat them, or if a mouse or
some other mammal or bird does, the larvae rapidly pass to the gut, move
through the walls of the gut into the body cavity, and then pretty reliably
migrate to the brain. Once they get to the brain, they don't really have
much to do, so they just destroy tissue and hang out, waiting for the brain
they're in to wind up getting eaten by a raccoon. This hurts the brain.
Once the larvae start migrating through the body, they're hard to treat, and
once they get to the brain, even if they're killed, damage is already done.
The number of human infections known to have occurred is quite low, but the
mortality rate of those cases is quite high. Not something to be trifled
with. As a parasitologist, this is one of my personal favorite examples of
the principle that "Parasites are not out to get you - they don't even care
that you exist." These things don't want to kill your brain because they
hate you; it's just that you've inconvenienced them by not being a raccoon,
so they'll wait in your brain until your shitty not-raccoon life is over in
the hopes that maybe your dead brain will get eaten by a raccoon and they
can get on with things.
