federal charges for racking up tens of thousands of dollars in personal
charges on her state-issued credit card.
Sandra Putnam was indicted on four counts of mail fraud and three counts of
federal program theft, according to an indictment handed down Tuesday.
Putnam pleaded guilty in December to state charges similar to the federal
crimes she is now accused of committing. But DeKalb County Superior Court
Judge Clarence Seeliger sentenced her to 10 years of probation, which has
already ended because she completed 200 hours of community service and
repaid more than $60,000. Seeliger’s sentence was less severe than what
Putnam’s own attorney asked for.
It also allows Putnam, who now goes by her married name of Sandra Stevens,
to retain her full retirement benefits from the state and her law
enforcement certification is not automatically revoked. |
