今天辅导印度裔学生高中生物学，最后还有20分钟，他说：“虾，我的世界历史最近一
章是古代中国史，明天要测验，你给我一个简介，我好组织study guide。”
我说：“The first dynasty in Chinese history was Xia. But here in the US,
most historians recognize Shang as the first dynasty in Chinese history.”
学生说：“Wait. My textbook says numerous archaeological artifacts show that
Xia was the first dynasty in Chinese history, then it was followed by Shang
and Zhou.”
我说：“Thank you for the update!"
......
学生又问：“When were written language and measurement units standardized in
China?”
我答：“First Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang unified China in 221BC and
started the standardization process.”
学生说：“Sorry. My textbook says in Shang Dynasty written language and
measurement units were standardized.”
我说：“But China did not become a unified nation until Qin Dynasty. You can
only say that the standardization process probably started in Shang Dynasty
.”
学生反问：“You just said China was not a unified nation before Qin Dynasty.
Then what kind of country was it?"
我说：“China was a confederacy before Qin Dynasty. The king of Zhou was the
nominal head of the country, but he only had direct control of the capital
region. The Eastern Zhou Dynasty was divided into the Spring and Autumn
period and the Warring State period. There were hundreds of states in the
beginning. Noble classes ruled their own states.”
学生说：“What you said is not in the textbook. Thank you for your help! But
I gotta go. Happy New Year!”
