background check in green card application is focused on criminal conviction
record. If the state tax department notified you that you owed them money,
just pay whatever they ask. a significant percentage of the tax returns
actually have some errors. so an error in tax return is more like a traffic
ticket, which is unlikely to affect your green card application. I think it
may not even show up in your public record. so | m******l 发帖数: 76 | 3 ncode says "don't worry about it" but I don't think that's a good idea to ig
nore this problem. Even if this may not affect your GC application, the IRS
may still come after you.
My advice is to report to IRS about this mistake by filing an Amended tax re
turn which can cover your previous years' mistakes. It's pretty easy to do s
o. If the IRS thinks that you need to pay the fine, they will let you know l
ater. By doing this, you can avoid the liability in the future.

| L***d 发帖数: 154 | 4 I agree with ncode. $100 is a small amount that is within any reasonable
measure of error. But you definitely don't want to commit tax fraud
intentionally.
