regular complex EE or CS invention, the fee is about 8-10k per non-provisional
application, and <1k for a provisional.
Unless you DIY.

| l**********r 发帖数: 240 | 3 I think there are firms which charge a flat fee (like writing a will). But
those patents are probably routine patents for which not much research and
arguments need to be made.
Litigation is where the big money lies:) The trick is you usually win for the
prosecution but it is not so certain for litigation.

| a***a 发帖数: 49 | 4 I think otheme's estimation is about right.
For every patent, some level of research and arguments will be needed.
If you think about it, for a associate, an hour is 170-300, and 10K is 30-50h
of work hours. Not all hours will be paid, though, because of the cap.
Of course, for something which might have higher value, in order to get
max protection, the firm might be able to charge more.

这个flat fee的猜想,来源于一些每年file巨多patents但是prestige ranking却不怎么
样的firms.应该低于10k/patent.否则每个associate写50个/年,firm的收入也很可观。
30-50h

industry and share it with you guys.
there are many different kinds of applications, essentially, there are ones
that require a PhD to draft, and ones that don't. People with PhDs, like you
and me, will be given more complex applications, the kind of "high-end"
inventions, and these usually have a higher cap around 9-10k. The key issue
is how fast you can understand the invention. Once you understand the guts of

research on this myself.
Yeah. It really depends. But I don't know how much more PhDs in Biological
Sciences learn on theories---we didn't really take many courses in graduate
schools. Though at least people who get into a good graduate school are those
who did well as undergraduates.
BTW, you had property/contract/civpro/crim/writing for the first semester? You
must be taking 17+credits. I had 17 (contract/torts/civpro/cr

| l**********r 发帖数: 240 | 9 I see. We have quite different course setup. Our property is 5cr and
contract/civpro/crim/torts is 4cr. I will take civproII sometime. ContractII
is an elective that is not required.
You must have felt the same way---the most difficult part of law school is
time. With just one less course, life would be so much easier. With only two
courses, it feels like vacation:)---once in a while, we had only two courses
in a day.
Yeah. I think it is going to get better. Still, 1700+pages is not going to be
