t****u 发帖数: 8 | 1 I am interviewing these days and begin to feel that there is a serious
cultural problem for Chinese students (i.e. attended undergraduate in China)
to win in the interviews. An interviewer chose a American Korean girl over me
simply because she chatted about sports in the interview and made the
interviewer laugh. I was so pissed off coz I have no idea about sports and am
not interested at all. Same thing with most things that Americans like, music,
movie stars or whatever. Do you guys think that | g*k 发帖数: 92 | 2 In my opinion, it all totally up to you. If you want to be able to communicate
with people on a broader basis, read more about sports and enterntainment or
whatever you want yourself to be aware of. If you do not think it is a big
deal you can not carry on conversations on sports, you make peace with
yourself.

how do you learn American style in your life? | t****u 发帖数: 8 | 4 U-turn, thanks a lot for the comments. I realize the importance of this whole
culture thing but find it very hard to fix. Sometimes I feel that I am simply
not interested. I know that this is a bad atitude, since we all want to be
lawyers and everything, maybe it's just me. In law schhol, sometimes I will
sit next to a person and don't talk at all, not because I don't want to, but
just because I don't know about to talk about except for stuff of school. I
used to think that law school is a good | a***a 发帖数: 49 | 5 You know, the whole cultural thing might have played a role in your interview,
but that could not have been the whole story. There will be other opportunities.
Do not worry! You prepared for all these before applying for law school, did
you?

| g****n 发帖数: 124 | 6 yeah..
when I was taking metro trains to an informational interview
I was thinking about
the cultural things at the same time
my conclusion is kinda like
I don't need to really know a lot about sports I don't like
what's important is being in a good mood
and always being able to bring up good topics
or keep asking questions
and it worked!
thanks for what you said too | g****n 发帖数: 124 | 7 what year are you in?
I admire your courage to go for law school with
a marriage and a kid.
but they not the least would be the reason your classmate
alienate you, if they really do so.
Just try to approach them and go to their
happy hours and party stuff
I actually feel the same thing here in my school
but there are alwasy some guys much more friendly
just have a try, please
