Green card, the situation is more complex. But as to H1B, it seems that the
statute does not expressly preclude the possibility.
H1-B application requires the sponsorship of a US employer. The definition
of the employer is :"a person, firm, corporation, contractor, or other
association, or organization in the United States which: (1) Engages a
person to work within the United States; (2) Has an employer-employee
