fruit vs. fruits: the singular form is more common. Use "fruits" when you
talk about different kinds of fruits.
"a lot of" vs. "lots of": pretty much interchangeable.
"there is" vs. "there are": determined by your choice between "fruit" and "
fruits" and not affected by your choice between "a lot of" and "lots of"
Therefore, I think either (1) or (2) below is grammatically correct, but (1)
is probably more common.
(1) There is a lot of/lots of fruit on the table.
(2) There are a
