第一个EE master，patent bar，JD，问现在做什么，答正在办移民的firm工作，我们
认为他不是十分想从事ip，只是想要个job，直接就pass了。
第二个是EE fresh phd，来了问了同样的问题，你为什么想做ip，我记不清他怎么答了
，给我的印象是歪打正着被recruiter拉过来面试的，又问对专利有哪些认识，答不知
道。因为是中国学生，我花了15分钟给他讲后面的人或者以后别人可能会问的一些问题。
第三个是ee phd，多少知道一些临时申请的东西，在公司做一点相关的准备工作，这个
是我最相信愿意转行做ip，而不是只是为了找个工作，解决身份而已。
第四个是某知名半导体公司 8年的senior engineer，问你为什么转行做ip，他的回答
没法让我相信他为什么可以忍受那么大的salary gap。最后也是pass。
我的感觉，你要是真心想去做这行，面试你的人能感觉的到，至少我能感觉到。

It seems quite bizarre coz back when I was in the JD program everybody envied those who could work as IP attorneys.
I don't know if I got it right, but what are the exit options for M&A in 4-5
years? Do most of people go for in-house? Or small firms? Or stay and become
partners? What are the chances of ESL/minority JDs becoming partners here
in the states, realistically? Or everybody just tries to get the expat package and make
partner in Asian offices? I heard that path d |

至更难。IP prosecution越来越萎缩，大所基本都不做了，美国人往这个方向的人越来
越多，做partner也不容易。去小所吧，我有朋友在小所做，一个application才4,5000
块，跟做个移民案子差不多，想要盈利基本靠压榨patent agent跟移民所压榨
paralegal一样的生意模式。

发帖数: 98 | 26 美国人往这个方向的人越来越多 -- 这个是个statistic impression吗？之前我们学校
的JD PROGRAM几年来一直都比较稳定的大概只有20%的人有IP BACKGROUND.而且在
Electrical engineering这一块人更少，比生物少，所以大概最多只有10% of the
whole class有那个background.--根据career office提供的数据。生物的话，有个PHD还是能吃开的。但是中国同学很多选择从生物去IP的反正也大部分是PHD毕业，不是吗。
但是我想IP的job security至少都是有目共睹的吧。有朋友的IP部门的第三第四年的人
，即使在这个经济下也是每天被head hunters打破电话供不应求。
而且，如果EXIT OPTION都不怎么样的话，我还是宁可每天能早点下班，以及经济不景气的时候不用太担心丢了饭碗。

3L们聊起这个所那个所做的billion-dollar deals和在2L summer 时听来的大partner
们的gossip，那种指点江山的感觉，哪里是做专利这种技术含量低、知名度小的
practice 的律师们所能体会得到的! |

觉得如果一辈子要贡献给一个所而没有了LIFE是很悲惨的，觉得IP是能够保证收入而又
有比较flexible hours-- 也可能是想当然--但是能够在有一个career的同时还能够有
时间经营别的--感情，家庭，爱好，才让人感觉更牛X吧。 |
