l*********d 发帖数: 73 | 1 I have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering-bioengineering. I am now a postdoc
in a medical school. I am in my 30's, female, single. I have been thinking
about going to law school but I have a few concerns.
1. shall I go for part-time or full-time law school?
I have tried to applied for the tech specialist position in the IP law firm.
No one wanted to hire me. I guess the reasons can be: first, they don't
need my technical background. It seems like other majors such as biology,
biochemistry or chemical or even EE are more popular than mechinical
engineering-bioengineering major; second, my degrees were not from top U.S.
schools. I did undergraduate in China and Ph.D. in Europe. My undergraduate
GPA was bad and I didn't have to take any course during my Ph.D. program so
there was no GPA for graduate school. If I can't find a tech position in a
law firm, what are the other ways to get sponsorship for part-time law
school? Also, will my technical background in medical device be helpful to
get me a job after law school?
2. when I am applying for the law school, will my bad undergraduate GPA from
a college in china and zero GPA record from my graduate school in Europe
weigh me down during the application process? What my chance will be to get
into a good program? Is a high LSAT score my only hope? I do have a solid
record of academic publication.
3.Will law school get in my way to start a family such as getting married,
raising children...in the next 3-5 years? Is there a better way to balance
life while I am in the law school?
Thanks a lot!

2. A lot of people consider law schools (especially non-top schools) as a scam. Huge debt without a job or with a $50k job ?
3. Question for you
Person A, PhD with 1 year part-time patent prosecution experience OR with patent bar w/o experience
Person B, JD with patent work experience
Person C, JD+PhD without experience
Who is better positioned for today's IP job market?
My impresssion is A>B>C. Why? One of the reasons is: firms need to pay much more to B and C because of their JDs. Even if you are willing to take the lower salary of A, firms (especially top ones) will still say NO. | D******D 发帖数: 1022 | 4 NO1 did you pass the patent bar? If not, not many firms want to hire you
No2, if top law school go for it, otherwise not worth the money
No3, your personal question, only you can answer it, it is funny you ask
other people this kinda stuff

时间不会倒流,但是旧事经常重现.
六年多以前有人问过这样的问题.

转贴的报道是七年前报纸上登的.

一个女生上LAW SCHOOL以前有四个小孩,FULL TIME工作PART TIME上学,
期间生了第五个孩子,并以班上第一名的成绩毕业.
Her husband accompanied her when she went to Roanoke for the bar exam, and
she nursed the baby during breaks.
当然,现在读起来和以前的感觉又不一样. Hehe.
