It has been 14 yrs since the first time I visited DC when I was an
International Relations’ student in Boston. I have lived and worked in DC
twice since, but have not been back in the past three years.
DC is always my most favorite city in US and I find this city getting more
attractive and charming. Streets are clearn, People are polite, friendly and
highly educated, cultural life is well orgnazied. And, I find out a lot of
buildings are popping up in Gallery place and downtown area this time.....
The following is a summary of my DC tourist activities in the past few days.
1) Rock Creek Park/National Zoo is an unique urban paradise.
I used to ride my bike every weekend inside the rock creek park, part of US
national park system, and had a great time. It is an unique urban paradise.
You will find peace, nature, fresh air. A great place for mediatation and
reflection .........
The one hr drive along Beach Dr. was a great and breath-taken experience...

National Zoo is located in the middle of Rock Creek Park. I am glad I spent
the whole afternoon of new year’s eve day over there,saw all lovely animals
I missed so much, Panada, lion, tiger, Zebra, flamingo and included
spending some time sitting down in front of Gorrila trying to talk with her.

2) Georgetown
a)Georgetown is unique in anyway.
Ten year ago, I heard the disucssion to extend metroline to this historica
area. But, not yet this time, I am not surprise if it has been caused by
strong oppostion by powerful Georgetown residents.
b)3401 Prospect, Delta Phi epsilon’s fraternity house was my first and
former DC residence. I felt obliged to revisiting it since I involved a lots
in this fratinity and made some very good friends while living with 15
young guys together.....talked with a french fellow over there and walked
through all 4 floors....A lot of sweet memory simply came back again when
the open was open again.....
This professional foreign service fraternity , associated with Georgetown’s
School of foreign service is still active and hold events regularly.

BTW, Former State Secretary Madeleine Albright’s house is 2 houses next to
ours. She used to be a professor at Georgetown university and her house was
guarded 24hrs by secret service personnel when she was in the Clinton
administration.
c) Waterfront area is getting more charming. Seem there are more
residental buildings than before. The waterfront garden has extended along
patomac riverbank towards key bridge, the bridge I used to crossed every
morning for jogging at Reseveloot island in the middle of Patomac river.
There is a wooden-made jogging trail inside the island.

3) Chevy Chase
I used to rent a room from a former US ambassador, whose house is located on
western Ave and had a chance to explore this presitigious neigberhood. Put
into a simple way, all of residents here are powerful and recognizable,
similiar as Georgetown.
The shopping area in friendship heights is getting more upscale, Gucci, Saks
Fifth, Neiman Marcus stores are all located in this area.....
4) Dupont Circle/Adam Morgan/U st.
a)Dupont cirlce is the culture icon in DC. The best and most popluar
bookstore/cafe is still popular. Every books they collected are worth
reading through and every book readers over there are worth chatting with
and building friendship with.

b)Walked through Massachusetts ave, stopped in front of Brookings
Institution, SAIS, where I used to work and have spent a lot of time
attending forums............and took a pause thinking and reflecting.....
c)Adam Morgan/U st are DC’s night club/bar areas. I found out these areas
are neat and much more safer than before, has no problem to walk around at
night. It seems to be DC’s safety has improved dramatically in recent years
.
5) White House/Lafayatte Sq/ODC movement.
a) St. Jonn’s church, the powerful Episcopal church which has a fame as
“Church of Presidents”, is located in the backyard of White House, the
Lafayatte sq is situated in the middle between them.
On 9am, 01/01/2012, New year day, joined St. John’s new year day Holy
Eucharist service.
A prayer for myself was asking Lord to re-organize my thoughts and life in
the year of 2012.
Observation:
A small,but well dressed, influential and devoted crowd.
The Rev.Dr.Luis Leon is a very articulate and thougtful pastor.
All of speakers for the Sunday’s adult forum are inspirational. For
instance, On 1/29/2012, the Hon.James Baker, who served for 3 US presidents
will lead the forum discussion.
If you plan to visit next time, pay attention to Pew 54, which is the
President’s Pew, and is located in the middle on the left side of chapel,

b) Lafayatte sq’s 30th year Lonely protester.
met and talked with Ms. Concepcion Piccotto again. She is remarkable figure,
has been demonstrating and holding the Anti-nuclear Peace Vigil in the
backyard of Whitel house since Aug, 1, 1980 for the past 30 yrs. She is
still energetic, talk active and friendly to every curious passbys.
Well, I demonstrated my anger once at Lafayatte’s sq aganist Bill Clinton’
s hawish-style foreign policy...the particular wrongful act of Bombing China
embassy’s in Belgrade in 2001....by playing my favorite Russion songs in
my laptop while sitting on the bench at Sq one night.....I, have no way to
reach the level of Ms. Piccotto’s endurance and determination.

c). Inspected Ocuppied DC camp ground at McPherson Square. Good, at least DC
Police has not evicted them yet. And, one protester/poet asked me if I can
help him to get his occupying-poem published and translated in Chinese
language..

6) Smithonisan Museums/National mall area.
I love all of Smithonisan museums located in the national mall area. It took
me straight 7 days to take the guided tour visiting all museums back in
1997. This time, it only took me one whole afternoon to cover all.
American Indian museum is new one. The architure is stunningly beautiful.

American history museum seems to have a new outlook.
US Botanic garden is great as always.
Luckily that I caught up the guided tour at Air and space museum and liked
that glass-wearing, knowledgable tour guide a lots and good to hear the
story about 1969 Apollo man’s moon landing program again.
Renwick Gallery is a biggest surprise this time. It is the most beautiful
bountique gallery I have been recently outside Europe......
Gee, it took me two hrs to write down these words. I hope this recap of my

罗列点资料，总结一下行程很马马虎虎能对付。

因为，她听出马来西亚的英语那种特殊的东南亚味。。。。
气的我半死。。。
我这找同根同源的历程这是辛苦。。。。
就觉得和leisure 版的文人亲，但也不知道这些文人都长啥样。。

早在 2004 年間，旅居三次探望前男友。這地方，我一點不陌生，懂得方向、懂得乘地
鐵、有當地朋友。新加坡，與香港蠻相似，走在新加坡街上，仿如身在香港。熱愛新加
坡，乾淨、寧靜、藍天、禮貌、文化、氣候、綠化、美食。一件背心、一條短褲、一對
涼鞋，喜歡汗流浹背，卻不會翳焗黏著。沒有遊行、沒有霸權、沒有𡃁模、沒
有同胞。溏心蛋、咖椰多士、海南雞飯、肉骨茶、香草奶茶、酸橙汁，最愛。 在 2011
與 2012 跨年，我選擇來到新加坡，難忘的除夕與新年。相隔七年，再踏足這遍動感
土地，仍嗅到熟悉氣味。現在的新加坡，在昔日簡單角度上，增添不少繁華氣息，多熱
鬧的聖淘沙島、多繁榮的烏節路、多迷人的濱海夜景、多有氣氛的克拉碼頭。三天兩夜

——著名舞剧《牡丹亭》在林肯艺术中心大卫·寇克剧院上演

2012年1月5日至8日，中国金陵艺术团一部充满了东方神韵和浪漫传奇色彩的著名
舞剧(pantomime)《牡丹亭》（Peony Pavilion），作为中国对外演出公司（CPAA）
2012大型文化品牌“中华风韵”项目之一，将在林肯艺术中心大卫·寇克上演。届时，
从中国古都南京远道而来的中国艺术家们将以舞蹈的形式重新诠释400年前充满浪漫奇
幻色彩的东方传奇。
《牡丹亭》是讲述“人可以为爱而死去，也可以为爱而复活”的浪漫主义作品，通
过讲述一段发生在400年前古代中国一对青年人之间的浪漫爱情故事，表达对自由生命
和理想信念的歌颂，也是对执着人性的赞美，对生命的讴歌。南宋初年（公元12世纪）
，南安府杜太守（中国宋代一个地区的政府最高长官，相当于美国的州长）年轻美丽的
女儿杜丽娘，在家中后花园牡丹亭里午睡时，在梦里遇见一个手持柳枝的英俊书生柳梦
梅，两人一见倾心，恩爱缠绵。杜丽娘梦醒之后，因为深爱梦里的柳梦梅，陷入相思，
一病不起。无良药可治，亦不允父母择婿，弥留之际，杜丽娘抱病为自己写真，将美貌
留在人世。也许是缘分所致，杜丽娘死后，她的画像流落街市，又被进京赶考路过此地
的柳梦梅买下。这情景，恰被杜丽娘游魂所见，随后追去与柳梦梅幽会，彼此山盟海誓
。被无常带到冥府后，丽娘面对磨难不改初衷，她对柳梦梅的深情打动了神鬼，生死判
官毅然打开冥府之门，送她还阳。这对有情人，穿越生死之后，终成眷属。
《牡丹亭》原剧创作于中国明代晚期，作者汤显祖与莎士比亚出生在同一年（西元
1550年），因而曾有戏剧研究家将两位戏剧大师并提，认为他们在东西方剧坛上分别做
出了惠泽人类的贡献。同样浪漫、凄凉的爱情故事，相比莎翁笔下的《罗密欧与朱丽叶
》，《牡丹亭》中的爱情更富有现实意义：隔断罗密欧与朱丽叶的，是蒙太古与凯普莱
特两家的仇恨，而杜丽娘和柳梦梅要面对的，则是古代中国森严的礼教。或许对于当代
的美国观众来说，很难理解为什么一个少女会爱上一个梦中的人，甚至因为思念这个不
存在的爱人而忧郁致死。但，只有将这段奇幻的爱情置于中国古代的大背景中体味，才
更能理解作者情节设计的良苦用心，以及主人公心中愈积的幽怨、涌动的爱慕、绵长的
痛苦、奋力的挣扎和一往不变的痴心，是怎样的恸人肺腑。
美国观众可能会吃惊地发现，一个在保守的中国传统家庭里成长的少女，竟在遇到
一个年轻男子的十分钟之后就做出了不顾一切的大胆举动。但对于一个生在900年前中
国的女孩来说，在梦中偶遇的男子，或许就是她一生中可能遇到的唯一一次爱情的机会
（古代中国的婚姻讲究的是门当户对，而反对所谓的爱情。很多时候，结婚当夜才是婚
姻双方的第一次见面）。那么，观众就不难理解，为什么杜丽娘会在梦中如此孤注一掷
了。
《牡丹亭》的作者汤显祖是一位怀抱浓烈情感体知人世的作家，他认为 “世总为
情，人生而有情”，《牡丹亭》正是他这种价值观念的展现。正如该剧的题词中所说：
“情不知所起，一往而深。生者可以死，死可以生。生而不可与死，死而不可复生者，
皆非情之至也”，正是这种穿越生死的至情，逾越了时代，成就了《牡丹亭》的不朽。
这部舞剧作品是第十届上海国际艺术节开幕大戏、迎接北京奥运的优秀剧目，更在
中国国内获得过包括中国舞蹈最高奖——第七届“荷花奖”中的舞剧作品金奖、表演金
奖，最佳编导奖、最佳音乐奖、最佳舞美设计等多项大奖。著名作曲家方鸣任本剧编剧
，曾任北京2008残奥会开幕式的音乐总设计，他将中国江南丝竹乐韵配以西方交响乐，
获得“荷花奖”之最佳作曲奖。该剧编导为中国舞蹈家，国家一级编导，金陵艺术团副
团长吕玲，由其编创的大型舞蹈诗《妈祖》获2000年中国第二届舞蹈“荷花奖”比赛作
品金奖，以及最佳编导奖、最佳表演奖等多项大奖，并获2001年“文华新剧目奖”。该
剧两个主要角色杜丽娘扮演者胡琴心，和柳梦梅扮演者许鹏，均曾获得中国舞台表演艺
术最高奖项“文华奖”，是中国民族舞的新星。其中女主演胡琴心担任领舞的《小城雨
巷》获得2007年中国春节联欢晚会观众最喜爱的歌舞类节目一等奖。 |

我去过那， 时间不长， 看到的当地人都是精精小小的。
街上走的好看一点的都是泰国，印尼，马来西亚，中国来的女人。
上周nyc 看到一新加坡官方的女的，短头发，红色眼镜，英语飞快，就是不悦耳。

Lazarus 'Leo' Fuld (Rotterdam, October 29, 1912 -- Amsterdam, June 10, 1997)
was a Dutch singer who specialised in Yiddish songs.
Leo Fuld was born as the third of ten children and grew up in a poor Jewish
family. His father, Louis Fuld, was a merchant. Fuld's talent for singing
showed at early age during services at the synagogue. Fuld was a good
student and was given a scholarship at the Dutch Jewish Seminar. His parents
expected young Leo to eventually become hazzan ('cantor'). At the age of
sixteen Fuld was already leading services in provincial synagogues.
In 1932 he left for England to audition for the BBC and became the first
Dutch singer behind the BBC microphone. His performance was noticed by Jack
Hylton, leader of one of the most popular show bands of that time. At the
age of 19 Leo joined for a tour, singing a miscellaneous repertoire: in
addition to schlagers and swing classics he also sang traditional Yiddish
songs.
Just before the outbreak of the Second World War Fuld left to perform in the
United States. Leaving Europe may well have saved his life; of his entire
family only Leo and one of his sisters survived the Nazis. The city in which
they lived was destroyed in the Rotterdam Blitz.
After the war he stayed in the US, becoming the number one interpreter of
Yiddish repertoire. Singing songs such as 'My Yidishe Mama', 'Ich hob Dich
zu viel lieb', 'Doina' and 'Wo Ahin Soll Ich Geh'n' made him famous all over
the world. He shared the stage with édith Piaf and Frank Sinatra. Many of
Fuld's songs are sung partly in Yiddish and partly in English. Sometimes he

"During World War II, while Fuld was living in the U.S., he lost nearly his
entire family. Until his death he was not able to discuss that topic with
his remaining sister and nieces. In his simple apartment in Amsterdam, the
singer was still writing songs and felt all but lonely: "I never get tired
of my own company." "
"Leo Fuld decided to seek further fame and fortune abroad and made the first
of his many recordings in Berlin's Odeon Studios in 1933. He further spread
his wings and became the first Dutch singer to perform for BBC microphones
with Jack Hylton's legendary big band. Clifford Fisher, the renowned New
York impresario brought him to the Big Apple in 1936 where he performed on
Broadway rubbing shoulders with stars of the day. His first visit lasted two
years, but after his residence permit expired he returned to the
Netherlands.
America kept pulling at his heart strings and he returned to New York in
February 1940, a few months before the outbreak of war in Holland. Fuld
spent the war years in New York. In 1945 he was to discover that one of his
sisters was the sole family survivor of the Holocaust. He was so devastated
he did not perform for three years.
Fuld resumed his career in 1948 in Amsterdam packing the famous Dutch movie
theater Tuschinski singing a more wistful and melancholic brand of Yiddish
song. Leo Fuld embarked on singing the Jewish version of the blues. This
included his rendition of Wo Ahin Soll Ich Geh'n? (Where Can I Go?) which
made him world famous and was a dramatic ode to the birth of the state of
Israel.
The 1950s marked the high point in Fuld's international singing career. "

如果说'学英文'就是看报纸的话
我确实发现melbourne那边比sydney强
而我们当地报纸可能移民多,那英语真是奇怪(主要是语法结构)
不过倒也能看懂

Jinling company, which hails from Nanjing and dates to 1955, takes certain
liberties in condensing the plot to focus mainly on the young lovers."

了美国参加了演出。
白先勇的是04年的青春版，男女主角是苏昆的俞玖林和沈丰英。
白的1699桃花扇里唱李香君的单雯，后来也唱过好几折牡丹亭，youtube上很多。
还有单的老师，张继青的版本。
只看过白先勇的桃花扇和牡丹亭的现场版，个人感觉如果不是特别特别好的位置，
还不如买DVD, 呵呵。
